Born in Northern Ireland (alongside Van Morrison and Liam Neeson) pre rock'n'roll (well, only just!).
I studied physics at Manchester University, did a post-baccalaureate teaching certificate at Leeds University and then completed a PhD in biophysics at Keele University. I did a post-doc stint at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich before teaching
at the Science University of Malaysia; researching at Monash University, Australia; and teaching at the University of the South Pacific, Fiji and Oxford Brookes University. Not content
with all this traveling, I moved to Kuwait as Professor of Radiologic Sciences for what was supposed to be a 3-year stint, and stayed 12 years. And from there to Sunny California in 2002, where I'm Professor of Applied Physics and Medical Imaging. I'm trying to live a more laid-back
life-style, but I haven't really succeeded ... I'm thinking of taking up painting to get in touch with my inner self!
I did a six month sabbatical (July 2009 to January 2010) at QUT (Queensland University of Technology - see QUT web news ) and IHBI (Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation - see IHBI Advances) in Brisbane, Australia as a Fulbright Senior Scholar.
I had a very productive time, and was able to make side trips to New Zealand (see Keynote Speaker, IVCNZ 2009 ) and Malaysia. |
